Changes with the blog and an e-mail newsletter
One reason we (the Gleneagle Connection Newsletter staff) started the blog was to reach Gleneagle residents and members with current information that is relevant to living here in Gleneagle and in Arlington. Currently there are about fifty people subscribed to the blog that are getting the posts.
At the same time, the Newsletter staff has decided to send out an e-mailed newsletter to come between the months the physical newsletter is published to fill in the gaps. Since the Newsletter is only published in January, April, July and October, there may be times that we miss important information or events happen where the residents would wish to be informed.
In an effort to maximize the reach of our efforts, we are opting to add items that would have been featured on the blog to the newsletter and discontinue new blog posts for the time being. Fortunately, all of you who subscribe to the blog are already on the e-mail distribution list, so you don't need to do anything to remain in the loop.
As always, if you do not wish to participate please reply to this post and let us know, we will delete your email address.

ROMEO this Week: Lucy
ROMEO will meet on Wednesday, August 1, at the clubhouse at 10:00 AM.
This week's topic:
Lucy - is this fossil evidence for the evolution of man?
Ever since Darwin published "The Origin of Species" in 1859,
paleontologists have been searching for evidence that man evolved
from an ape-like creature. The first serious fossil proposed as an
intermediate link was Neanderthal in 1856. A more recent one is Lucy
found in 1974. Heinz Lycklama has examined the evidence for half a
dozen proposed intermediate links over the years.
Dr. David Menton, with a PhD in Biology and experience in anatomy
at Washington University School of Medicine, has analyzed the
evidence for Lucy as an intermediate link in much detail. His analysis
of the well-known Lucy fossil is covered on a DVD that we will watch.

Arlington’s ROMEOs know what and wherefore
Retired Old Men Eating Out look forward to their weekly meetings with special guests at the Glen Eagle country club in Arlington.
ARLINGTON -- Call them the ROMEOs. Retired Old Men Eating Out, that is.
A group of about 25 older gentlemen who live in the Glen Eagle development of Arlington meet at 10 a.m. each Wednesday at their country club to expand their minds, sip coffee, share a meal and offer encouragement to each other.
"We're not just bunch of old fogeys sitting around shooting the bull," member Don Williamson said. "We keep tabs on each other and have a meaningful weekly program that we all look forward to."
The men range in age primarily from mid-60s to late 80s. They are retired businessmen, teachers, Boeing engineers and scientists, and generally are just a bunch of guys with a variety of interests. For example, Williamson, one of the ROMEO program coordinators, recently offered a wine tasting for the group.
This week, the group heard an hour-long presentation from Bill Blake, the city of Arlington's natural resource and stormwater wetlands manager. Blake offered a rundown on all of the city's current activities, including road work, economic development and the construction of campsites by Boy Scouts at the new Country Charm park on the north end of town. As he spoke, his audience casually asked questions.
"We like having Bill come in," Williamson said. "He grew up in Arlington and he can put a lot of things into context for us."
Previous programs have included a visit by county Sheriff John Lovick. In June, history buff Frank Barden presented a program on mysterious crop circles in England. Mayor Barbara Tolbert talked about her first six months in office. Retired physicist Heinz Lyklama offered a presentation about stem cells and cloning. Carson Tavenner, 43, the group's youngest member and a recently retired Air Force officer, talked about China-U.S. relations.
The ROMEOs also are in charge of the night security patrol through their neighborhood and a handful of them volunteer throughout the school year at nearby Pioneer Elementary School to help students with their math and reading projects.
"We like to keep busy," Williamson said.

172nd Road Closure
You may have heard that 172nd is going to be closed starting in June to help facilitate construction of our new roundabout. Originally the closure was to take place on June 6th, but this has been postponed to June 14th, but this date depends on the weather.
Here is what the WSDOT project website has to say:
- 172nd closure delayed: The closure of the east leg of 172nd Street at the SR 9 intersection has been delayed because of the wet weather. Crews need dry weather to restripe the intersection. The closure was originally planned to start June 6. It's now postponed.
- Both directions of SR 9 will remain open during the closure, but the lanes will be narrowed and shifted to the west side of the intersection to help make room for construction of the east half of the roundabout.

Meet at the clubhouse by 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23rd
Wives welcome.
For this week's meeting, we'll meet in the parking lot of the Gleneagle clubhouse and caravan to the estate of Brent McKinley to tour his vintage automobile collection - for any of those who attended the recent dedication of the restored railroad station in downtown Arlington, the two vintage Packards parked in front of the station belonged to Mr. McKinley - they are just a part of his impressive collection - those who join us are in for a real treat as the estate and collection are unlike anything you might have seen, before - Frank Barden has the address and will lead us to the site - afterwards, arrangements have been made for space to eat at Hubbs Pizza and Pasta for a lunch.

Don't Forget the ACC
As we're heading into that time of year when we start to tackle projects on the outside of our homes, it's a
good idea to plan ahead and get any approvals you might need from the Architectural Control Committee. I think we're all aware that the big projects need approval, like house painting, re-roofing or re-siding, but technically all work on the outside of the home needs to be requested. This includes the often overlooked covering patios or decks, installing sheds, or adding window shutters.
While you don't need approval to do general landscaping or even removal of deciduous trees, you do need to get approval for any removal of evergreen trees. To be on the safe side, read the ACC guidelines before starting any projects.
If you need a copy of the guidelines or have any questions, you can e-mail Mike Waters at md.waters@comcast.net. Approval request forms can be obtained from and submitted to a box marked "ACC" on the porch at this address: 17431 Osprey Road.
Most requests will get answered within one week and you can be on your way to beautifying your home with no fines down the road.

New at the Clubhouse: Pizza!
In case you haven't heard, there's a new pizza oven up at the clubhouse. And not just any old pizza oven, an open-flame wood-fired pizza oven. But wait, it gets better: you can get wood-fired pizza from the clubhouse DELIVERED right to your door. Pretty great, right?
There are lots of ingredients to choose from, so you can just call up to order and either pick it up or have it delivered and the great part is that in addition to supporting a local business, your pizza is not coming from more than a mile so you know it's going to be fresh and hot.
Here's the number for the clubhouse to order your pizza: (360) 474.9955
Also new at the clubhouse is the addition of hand-dipped ice cream and a small convenience-type shop that stocks essentials like milk, bread, and condiments.

Governing Documents Review Committee
In the past, several previous boards have sought to address the numerous inconsistencies within our various governing documents. This task was/is not trivial and it is this boards intent to build upon the hard work of those prior with the establishment of the "governing document review task team".
But first, in order to understand the challenges with such an endeavor we must look back a bit on the origination of our Declarations, Articles, Rules/Regs, and By-Laws. When the community was run by the developers (prior to the efforts led by Hatch's, Schouman's, Riebe's to obtain the control of the board - succeeding in 2002) the governing documents were drafted in such a way so as to protect the best interest of the non-lot owner (developers) who ran the majority on the board at that time.
In 2002, the court decided in our favor and ordered the removal of any/all references to "non-lot owners" within our governing documents. At that time the board acted swiftly in order to satisfy the timeline of the
judgment and to get on with the business at hand of running our own community for the sole benefit of its members. In that hurried process, a few things were overlooked and as a result we, as a community, have recently discover that some loopholes, ones that no one ever thought would ever be exploited, were left in place and still exist today

Gleneagle Women's Golf Club
The 2012 Opening Day for Gleneagle Women’s Golf was April 4th, but it certainly is not too late to join the club. The club welcomes all lady golfers to join, whether you are a beginner or experienced. If you are a real beginner, take advantage of some lessons and the driving range.
The ladies play on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 AM from April through Halloween. The exceptions are
April and October when we begin at 10:00 AM. The Club has weekly competitions, tournaments and
opportunities to play other courses in Snohomish County and around the State. There are monthly
meetings to discuss golf rules, upcoming competitions, etc. In the first week of November the club holds the annual Awards Luncheon.

North Sound Business Leaders
BNI, Inc. is the largest business networking organization in the world and you might not know that there is a very active chapter right in your own back yard. The North Sound Business Leaders meet every Tuesday morning at 7:15 at the Gleneagle Club House.
BNI was founded over 26 years ago as a personal way for like-minded business people to build their businesses, the old fashioned way, by word-of-mouth personal referrals. Everyone knows there is nothing better for business than a referral from a trusted friend who is a satisfied customer. That relationship is what they foster in BNI. The central philosophy of BNI is “Givers Gain” the concept that giving business will create reciprocity among the members of the group.
Meetings are open to anyone who owns a business or works for one that would benefit from this kind
of networking and personal development. Guests are treated to a free breakfast and a fun, fast paced, structured meeting that is well worth your time.
For questions or more information, please contact our Chapter President: Brandon Williams, 425.438.3357

Handyman Committee
Now that it looks like spring is coming soon, the Handyman Committee will start to get involved with many projects within the community. First thing on the agenda is to get bids on replacing some of the mail stands that need immediate attention.
Other projects include painting end caps on medians along Gleneagle Boulevard, trimming the brush from the fence along Hwy 9 East of Legends, and painting mail stands. Homeowners will be required to remove the staples from the stands prior to painting.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Ed Maynard at 360-435-2207.

Kids Day at Gleneagle
Please join us for the first of what we hope will become an annual, "Kids Day at Gleneagle Golf Course" tradition. "Kids Day" will be on Saturday, May 19th (the Saturday during the Gleneagle garage/yard sale). Details and special guests will include:
KIDS ONLY GARAGE SALE - 9am - (?) dusk. Children are invited to participate in one of two, or both, ways:
Option 1: Sell Your Stuff: Children, w/ parent supervision, are invited to set up a table and sell gently used toys, books, games, clothing, furniture, sports equipment, etc for cash outside the Gleneagle Golf Course Clubhouse.
Option 2: "One For One" swap: Children may exchange items for "Gleneagle Bucks". Every item, regardless of size or monetary value, will be exchanged for one "Gleneagle Buck", and then later offered up for sale to participating children for one "Gleneagle Buck". Please drop off items for exchange between 9am - 1:00pm (child participants will be given their "Gleneagle Bucks" at that time), and then return after 1:30 to "shop". (The time lapse will allow us to accumulate a good selection, and also gives kids the option of exchanging items they were not able to sell for cash.) The exchange is for children only. Only children will be given Gleneagle Bucks. Only children will be allowed to "spend" Gleneagle Bucks.
- Please ensure all items sold or swapped are child appropriate, clean, are in working order, and contain all needed components in order to function.
- As a courtesy to our friends at the Golf Course restaurant, no food or drink sales, please unless prearranged and authorized by Gleneagle Golf Course management.
PERRFECT PALS CAT RESCUE - Perrfect Pals, along with a few of their furry friends, will be doing a special, on-site cat adoption event! They will also be doing some fundraising selling cat toys, accepting cat food, cat care supplies, and monetary donations, and be available to talk to anyone with an interest in fostering a homeless kitty. Stop by and say hi...or should I say..."meow".
ARLINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT - Come meet local firefighters who will on-site early afternoon for an upfront look at a fire truck and an ambulance.
ARLINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT - A special, Arlington PD canine unit will be making a special appearance and will be available for children to meet. Sure hope Perrfect Pals doesn't bring any "cat-burglars" - ha-ha! :)
ARLINGTON EAGLES FOOTBALL TEAM - Don't forget to wear your blue and gold, because members of the AHS Football Team will be on-site, in uniform, to meet-and-greet, and will be doing a special fundraiser of which the grand prize is a football that was autographed by Seattle Seahawk Lawyer Milloy himself! The football was generously donated by the Lawyer Milloy Football Camp. Flyers for the camp will be available at Kid's Day.
The First Tee - In 1997, the World Golf Foundation created The First Tee as a way to bring golf to young people that otherwise would not be exposed to the game and its positive values. The golf course, in alliance with The First Tee, will be bringing kid's golf to Gleneagle! The First Tee will be on-site selling used kid's golf equipment and to meet-and-greet and info-share about their program. More information on The First Tee may also be found on the Gleneagle Golf Course website.

The New, Improved Gleneagle Website
You may or may not be aware that the Website Committee has been in the process of converting our old website to a new, cleaner, easier-to-use site. The good news is that it is ready for use by our community. The site resides at the same address as before: www.gleneaglecca.org. The unfortunate news is that we were unable to transfer your former username and password over to the new system. We realize this is inconvenient and thank for your understanding and patience in completing the sign-up process once again.
To sign-up for a log-in, just click the "Login" link located just under the logo at the top of the page. You will be prompted to click to sign-up and at that time can enter your information. You will receive an e-mail when your information is received and another e-mail upon approval. We are working to approve new login requests quickly, but it is necessary to review each request in order to prevent non-members from getting logins. Once you have been approved and login for the first time, you can click a box at sign-in that will keep you signed-in indefinitely, which means that you won't have to enter your login each time you visit the site.
Please be aware that not all pages are fully set-up, but know that we are aware of changes that need to be made and will be continuing to work on these in the coming days and weeks.

Gleneagle Connection, Spring Edition
The Spring Edition of the Gleneagle Connection Newsletter is now available for reading. If you didn't get a copy in the mail, or even if you did, you can read the newsletter online by clicking here.
If you did receive a copy of the newsletter in your mailbox, but like reading it online, consider signing up to receive the newsletter electronically every time instead of a paper copy. Why do this?
- You'll receive the newsletter sooner than those who get the paper copy.
- You can save it digitally on your computer to have for your records.
- It costs money to print and mail the newsletter, so getting it electronically keeps costs down.
- Getting the newsletter electronically is "green" and saves paper.
Interested? Just e-mail us by clicking here.

ROMEO this week: China, Part II
ROMEO meets on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. This week's meeting will be covering:
China, Part II
In his first talk, Carson Tavenner presented an overview on China, that hugely significant yet little understood country that is changing our expectations of the 21st century. We hear about China almost every day, but what is it? We know it’s old, but so what? We know it’s an economic powerhouse, but what does that mean? In this second of a series of talks, Carson will focus on some of the more specific politics, history, language, people, culture and current events, in response to questions asked by the group.
Heinz Lycklama has also traveled in China and will share some of his experiences and thoughts.

ROMEO This Week: Cameroon Trip Report
ROMEO meets Wednesday at 10:00 A.M.
For the meeting on April 25, 2012 Heinz and Gerda Lycklama recently came back from their trip to Cameroon. Heinz will give a report on what's happening in Africa and what it's like to
travel to/from and in Cameroon. He will show some slides taken during their two-week visit and comment on the living conditions in Cameroon. The role of the Chinese in Africa will also be discussed.
Also, there will be a dedication of the new railroad station in downtown Arlington next Saturday, the 28th of April--it really should be an interesting event--and there will be a couple of vintage automobiles (provided it doesn't rain) to be parked in front of the station. There will be a display of intriguing, fully restored old gas-powered equipment from the very early 1900's and a Dixieland band. The program starts at 11:30 AM and will run to about 2:00 PM.

We Need Your Recommendations!
Once the new website is up and running, one feature that will be available is a Professional Directory. There was something similar to this on the old website and the goal is to take that idea and make it better. The Professional Directory will feature the recommendations of Gleneagle residents for a variety of professional services.
This is where you come in. Have you had your roof redone and loved the guy who did it? Do you get your windows cleaned by a fantastic company and think other people should know about it? Send in the name and contact info of any company you have used and liked with a quick word of recommendation and your name. These will get listed on the new website for other Gleneagle residents to see.

Annual Homeowners Meeting Overview
In case you missed the Annual Homeowners Meeting, here is a quick overview of the highlights:
- Only 68 homeowners attended the meeting, which is not a quorum, so no new Board members were elected.
- There will be a new sign, purchased by the golf course, being installed at the 172nd entrance advertising the course and clubhouse facilities. Also expect to see a redesigned median across from the clubhouse thanks to the efforts of the Landscape Committee.
- The lawsuit is proceeding and there will be a probable November court date.
- The new Gleneagle website will be up and running soon, stay tuned for more information.
- There will be no increase in association dues this year!
- Regarding HB1309, the Board is responding to the study that was done with some revisions and will have another study done in the future. There is some confusion as to what is required by the new law and we are required to have a study done and to disclose what our funding level is, but we are not required to be funded to a certain level. We are currently funded at 16 percent, but this will change as changes are made to the study.
Again, these are just the highlights. If you have questions, please comment on this post and someone will be able to answer.

Neighborhood Crime
In case you heard that there were a couple break-ins recently in our area, including one in our neighborhood, rest assured that the culprits have been arrested. Here is a link to an article in the Everett Herald with the rest of the story:
http://heraldnet.com/article/20120327/NEWS01/703279921#Arlington-couple-suspects-in-burglaries%0A
Also, hypodermic needles have been found on two of our neighborhood playgrounds, so be aware if you frequent any of the playgrounds.
The point here is that it never hurts to take extra precautions, whether that means using an extra means of locking your doors at night or doing a quick check of the areas your kids are going to be playing in. Let's be safe out there, Gleneagle.

Wild Animals in Gleneagle
In the last couple days there have been a number of coyote sightings around the development.
There were two coyotes on the 14th the other morning and they were looking for ducks and birds and they even came up on some yards. They were a pair and looked in good shape and were comfortable enough to be in the yards for some time.
Another community member/golfer recently saw a coyote over on the 15th hole (in the Hamptons: Abbey/Greywalls/Carlisle/Hunter Streets).
Here is one more report of coyotes spotted by the 14th and 15th holes, verbatim:
A few days back, we had coyotes howling and what you would call "snickering" loudly in the greenbelt behind our home at the end of Hunter Place. One at midnight and the next night at approximately 2:00 AM. Folks should keep close attention turned toward their cats and small dogs, even in their backyards. They usually hunt in packs of two or four and are very cunning. If you see one...two or three are generally close by. The one visible to you will usually be the one to drive the prey into the trap set by the others. They'll jump fences too. Last month, a small cougar was in the greenbelt and in the backyard of one of our next door neighbors. Just a reminder to all that we indeed live in a rural area and some of these critters get used to people and can become very brave. I send this email not to frighten anyone, but to have folks be alert.
If you live in any of these areas, please be aware that there could be coyotes about, especially if you have small pets or children. It never hurts to be cautious.

Berry Pruning from the Garden Club
Do you enjoy gardening or at least like plants? The Arlington Garden Club is a group of about one hundred enthusiastic men and women from Arlington and the surrounding areas who enjoy learning about gardening and sharing tips and tricks (both that work and don't work!). The Garden Club gathers monthly on the second Monday at the Gleneagle Clubhouse for sharing, questions and learning from a speaker. There are also quarterly workshops like the annual wreath-making class.
Since we're on the eve of gardening season, it's time to get your annual plants in order and raspberries are no exception. Here is a link shared by the Garden Club on pruning raspberries:

Daylight Savings and Smoke Detectors
As I'm sure you are aware, the time changes this weekend and we will "spring forward" one hour. While you are going around your home changing clocks, this is a great time to test and put fresh batteries in your smoke detectors. It would also be a good idea to review your household fire escape plan and check your fire extinguishers.

Neighborhood Watch: Mail Theft
We are currently in the middle of a string of mail thefts which is troubling because personal information in the hands of thieves can lead to some serious problems. It is also troubling because we, the homeowners, are not taking steps to prevent this from happening.
Please, please, please do the following to protect yourself:
- Get a locking mailbox.
- Deposit outgoing mail in a locked box. There is a blue postal box on East Country Club Drive that you can use.
- Call the police if you experience theft of any kind.
Yes, a locking mailbox is expensive. And yes, it takes a little extra time to drive or walk to a locked outgoing mailbox. BUT, is forgoing the extra expense and time worth having your money or identity stolen?
It would be great to live in a world where you could leave your mail unsecured, but unfortunately we don't and it is foolhardy to leave yourself unprotected.

The Gleneagle Connection is going digital!
Just in case you haven't heard, our community's newsletter, the Gleneagle Connection, will soon be available in a digital format. What does this mean? Instead of receiving a paper copy, you will receive a digital (.pdf) copy to read on your computer (or print) at your leisure. This saves the Association money in both printing and postage costs and saves a lot of paper.
If you are interested, you can send Judy Ness an e-mail with both your e-mail and physical address so we can remove you from the physical mailing list and start sending you the digital copy.

Neighborhood Watch: Mail Theft and Graffiti
There has been some mail theft and graffiti in our neighborhood this past week and, as this is the purpose of this blog, you are being made aware of the problem. As you know, being aware is the first step in prevention, so let's do what we can to fix this problem. How can you help?
- Be on the look-out for people near mailboxes and parked cars that look suspicious. If you see anything that looks mischievous, call the police.
- Put out-going mail in a locked mailbox, like the one on West Country Club Drive. If you want to put it in your own box, resist the urge to put the flag up. If you don't have a secure locking mailbox, consider investing in one.
- Tell your neighbors to be on the look-out and to keep their mail safe.
- Report any suspicious behavior to the police by dialing 911.
Let's try to make this kind of crime infrequent in Gleneagle.

Board Meeting Records
If you attended the last meeting, or got e-mails about it, I'm sure you are aware there are video copies of the meeting that you can watch. For me personally this was handy because although I am a decent note-taker, without the videos there was no way to fully communicate all the information and the tone of the meeting to my husband who stayed home.
The idea is out there to purchase a camcorder to record all meetings and post the videos for the purpose of informing those who can't attend and for "backing-up" the contents of the minutes. It would be easy to solve arguments over what happened at a meeting if all it took was reviewing a video.
What are your thoughts on this? What Association events would you like to see recorded? Or do you think we should not be recording at all? What do you think is a reasonable amount to spend on a camcorder for this purpose?

Who are the ROMEOs?
ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) is a Gleneagle based group of retired men
who meet every Wednesday at the Gleneagle Clubhouse from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
What started as a gathering of retirees to just sit, drink coffee and talk has developed
into a large group with wide-ranging interests, all walks of life and of varied
experience.
The group has regular speakers from inside and outside the community to give talks
on a variety of subjects such as Archeology, Finance, Genealogy, History, Legal
Affairs, State and local Police, Arts and Crafts, Coping with Loss of a Loved One,
Downsizing One’s Home, Memories of WWII, etc.
Some members form part of the core Gleneagle Security Patrol and are also
volunteers at the Pioneer Elementary School, assisting teachers in various classes.
There are also side interest groups such as the Investment Club, who meet regularly
after the main meetings.
Nothing is formal and members can attend or not as they choose. Some members also
stay and eat lunch after the meeting. The cost of $5 per session includes the use of the
meeting place, coffee, tea, juices and muffins. In addition, if members stay for lunch,
$3 of the meeting cost goes towards the price of the lunch! This really is a great deal!
The group is always open to new Gleneagle residents and it’s a great way to get to
know one’s neighbors!

What is our Majority?
A lot of talk has gone around about changing the governing documents and I think we all agree that this is something that needs to be done. The question is, do we need to also change the majority required to pass motions? Should we use a super majority or a simple majority?
A super majority is 66.67 percent of homeowners voting in the affirmative.
A simple majority is 51 percent of homeowners voting in the affirmative.
There is super majority language currently in the documents. Are you in favor of keeping it that way? We have gotten that number of votes before and some like that it is difficult to make changes here. Are you in favor of going to a simple majority? Should it be easier to get things done? Weigh in with your opinion and you can always join the conversation at the Gleneagle Google Groups page.

How to Be on the Board and the Future of that Process
The Association's Nomination Committee is currently seeking interested candidates for the open Board of Directions postitions. Anyone wanting to serve in this capacity can submit their names for consideration to John Branthoover. You will be provided with a questionnaire and will be interviewed by the Nomination Committee, which consists of two home owners and one board member on the review committee.
As this seems to be our season of examining the way we do things here in Gleneagle, are there ways we could make this process better? More thorough? More official?
Here is the opinion of one resident on the matter:
Psychology shows us that people tend to gravitate toward like-minded thinkers when in small groups, so three people are not enough to provide objectivity when interviewing candidates. Instead of an interview, the following would be a better, more objective, indicator of suitability:
- Criminal Background Check
- Proof of Citizenship
- Letters of Recommendation from at least three homeowners residing in Gleneagle
After submission of these items, a committee could convene to review and verify these items.
Since this condensed from the original, I you are interested in reading the whole argument for this new way of selecting Board of Directors candidates, click here.
What do you think about this? Do you like it the way it is just fine? Would you like to see something totally different?

Sex Offender Alert
Be aware, there is a level three sex offender living down by the Arlington Cemetery. This is less than two miles away from Gleneagle. Like the Sheriff's Department website say, this person is not currently wanted by the law, but according to the notice, is assessed at a high level to re-offend.
Click here to see pictures and details relating to this person.
Please, please, please take this opportunity to talk to your kids or grandkids about how to act around strangers, who good strangers are, and what to do if approached by a suspicious person. There are more suggestions at the Sheriff's website here.
You have the ability to do a search for offenders based on your address and currently there are seventeen offenders living within two miles of Gleneagle. You also have the ability to be notified via e-mail when there are new offenders moving into the area.
Please use this information to be aware and vigilant. Make sure to not leave your younger kids unattended outside and if you see any kids being approached by strangers, please step in. It takes just a moment to make sure kids are safe and you could be preventing something terrible. Let's make sure that Gleneagle is an inconvenient place to commit crimes of any types.

Gleneagle Discounts
In addition to a discount for residents in the clubhouse restaurant, there are two other discounts available to Gleneagle residents you should be aware of.
- 10% off discount in the Pro Shop
- Special resident rates for Gleneagle green fees
So as soon as the weather warms up a bit, go get a couple sleeves of golf balls at the Pro Shop and play a round on our course. You'll support Gleneagle and save money and have a great time while you're at it!
Garbage Can Enclosures
According to our governing documents, garbage cans should not be visible from the street or the golf course. Currently, residents are not being fined for non-compliance, but starting sometime in the near future, fines will be issued in these cases. Here is a solution for those of you needing an enclosure and not wanting to build it yourself.

Community "Town Hall" meeting
Want to meet your neighbors?
Have some ideas for making Gleneagle better?
Need some questions answered about how things run?
There will be a "town hall" style meeting at the clubhouse on February 4th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with chances to meet other members of the community and ask and share your questions, comments or concerns. Hope to see you there! And this is also a great time to try breakfast or lunch at the restaurant if you haven't had a chance to eat there yet.
Get involved with the Welcoming Committee
The members say this is the “best volunteer position in Gleneagle”. They get to meet the new residents and most of the new residents are very enthusiastic about their move here and anxious to discuss plans for their future new home in our Gleneagle community. At present, there are usually from two to six new sales each month, so the three members visit about two residents each.
They provide a Welcome Packet which is full of information they have gathered from various sources such as City Hall and the Visitors Center covering area activities, services, and other information of local interest. There is a general document detailing what is available in Gleneagle and another detailing how to register on the website.
Interested in welcoming our new members?

Why a blog?
A Gleneagle Newsletter Committee member has created a “Blog” for the residents of our community. Jody Lenius states “Currently much time and expense goes into the assembling, printing, and
mailing of the newsletter that may or may not be read by those who receive it; a thick, plain looking
newsletter could easily be missed or bypassed amid a stack of more interesting looking mail. In addition members of the younger generation increasingly prefer to read news and mail in a digital format. “By adding a blog, we can reach those residents who prefer to read news in a digital format.
This will also cut down on printing and mailing as publishing a blog is totally, completely free.
The blog will also serve as a forum for the community to converse on posts by having a comments
section. Anyone can comment and even subscribe to comments to stay current with others’ comments. In order to prevent blog comments from becoming an outlet for non-appropriate, offensive
or rude comments, all comments will be reviewed and edited if necessary by the blog editor prior to
posting on the blog. Please keep comments relevant, constructive and non personal.
The committee understands that there are those who will choose to receive a newsletter and that
will continue for those who wish to receive it. We hope that residents who can will choose to
receive the newsletter via email rather then “snail” mail. To sign-up for this option, please
provide your Name, Address and email address to Judy Ness at nessie02@comcast.net so we know which of the members have subscribed and so we can remove you from the mailing list.
